How to Verify the Purity of Honey

Fake and impure honeys have become commonplace in the market today, despite many people's preference for 100% bees' honey. The problem with this is, unfortunately, fake and impure honey can be passed off as pure very easily. When viewed on the shelf, it is very hard to pick out what is pure, and what is not. There are, however, a few ways to figure this out.

Steps:

1. Check the label. You would be amazed at how many people neglect to look closely at the label of food products before buying them, and then are dismayed to find they bought something they really didn't want. Check around the brand name, and the ingredients list (if there is one) for a mention of additives. The company should be required to list them if you are shopping in certain countries. If there are no mentions of additives, buy the honey.

2. Taste the honey. If it seems off, and yet the label claims it is pure, there are a few simple tests you can run to check the purity of the honey.

* The dissolving test.

o Get a glass of water. This and a tablespoon of honey are all you need for the first test.
o Empty the honey into the water. If the honey is impure, it will dissolve in the water- the most common additive to honey is syrup of jaggery, which dissolves. If it is pure, the honey will stick together and sink as a solid lump to the bottom of the glass.
o This test can also be completed by mixing equal parts honey and methylated spirits (denatured alcohol). Pure honey will settle to the bottom. Impure honey is more likely to remain dissolved and make the solution milky.
* The flame test.

o Get a lighter and a candle with a cotton wick. This test is better if you don't have as much honey to spare.
o Dip the cotton wick of the candle into a bit of the honey, and shake off the excess.
o Attempt to light the wick. If it burns, then it is completely pure honey. If it refuses to burn, then the presence of water is not allowing the wick to burn. (If there is only a very small amount of honey on the wick, though, it might still burn. It will produce a crackling sound, and it would be best to blow out the wick and try it again this time using more honey.)
* The absorption test.

o Pour a few drops of honey on blotting paper and observe whether or not it is absorbed. If it's absorbed, the honey's not pure.
o If you don't have blotting paper, pour a little bit of honey on a white cloth, then wash the cloth. If there is any stain left by the honey, it is probably not pure.
3. The ants test

Leave a little of testing honey near some ants, if the ants hover around it then the honey is adulterated.Bees naturally build the combs between the stones and on the trees, and to protect the honey from insects, ants and others they add an additive to honey. This is the reason that ants will not hover around pure honey.

It is also a belief that dandruff is also caused by a dry scalp and it is often also caused by an oily scalp. As such that excessive oil in the hair forms as layer on the scalps, when it dries, and then thickenss, this layer flakes off in the form of dandruff.

It is also caused by inproper attention towards hair as due to fungus on the scalp whch can be controlled but not completely eraticate it. There is speculation that dandruff is linked with hair loss, as dandruff may indicate an unhealthy scalp.

Other Internal Causes:

* Poor health
* Lack of rest

Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is the force of blood against the walls of arteries. Blood pressure is recorded as two numbers—the systolic pressure (as the heart beats) over the diastolic pressure (as the heart relaxes between beats). The measurement is written one above or before the other, with the systolic number on top and the diastolic number on the bottom. For example, a blood pressure measurement of 120/80 mmHg (millimeters of mercury) is expressed verbally as "120 over 80." Normal blood pressure is less than 120 mmHg systolic and less than 80 mmHg diastolic.

High Blood Pressure
High blood pressure increases your chance (or risk) for getting heart disease and/or kidney disease, and for having a stroke. It is especially dangerous because it often has no warning signs or symptoms. Regardless of race, age, or gender, anyone can develop high blood pressure. It is estimated that one in every four American adults has high blood pressure. Once high blood pressure develops, it usually lasts a lifetime. You can prevent and control high blood pressure by taking action.

Blood pressure rises and falls during the day. When blood pressure stays elevated over time, it is called high blood pressure. The medical term for high blood pressure is hypertension. High blood pressure is dangerous because it makes the heart work too hard and contributes to atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). It increases the risk of heart disease and stroke, which are the first- and third-leading causes of death among Americans. High blood pressure also can result in other conditions, such as congestive heart failure, kidney disease, and blindness.

A blood pressure level of 140/90 mmHg or higher is considered high. About two-thirds of people over age 65 have high blood pressure. If your blood pressure is between 120/80 mmHg and 139/89 mmHg, then you have prehypertension. This means that you don't have high blood pressure now but are likely to develop it in the future. You can take steps to prevent high blood pressure by adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Those who do not have high blood pressure at age 55 face a 90 percent chance of developing it during their lifetimes. So high blood pressure is a condition that most people have at some point in their lives.

What the Numbers Mean

Both numbers in a blood pressure test are important, but for people who are 50 or older, systolic pressure gives the most accurate diagnosis of high blood pressure. It is high if it is 140 mmHg or above.

Blood Pressure Level (mmHg)
Category Systolic Diastolic
Normal <>160 or >100

Systolic Pressure is the force of blood in the arteries as the heart beats. It is shown as the top number in a blood pressure reading. High blood pressure is 140 and higher for systolic pressure. Diastolic pressure does not need to be high for you to have high blood pressure. When that happens, the condition is called "isolated systolic hypertension," or ISH. Diastolic pressure is the force of blood in the arteries as the heart relaxes between beats. It's shown as the bottom number in a blood pressure reading.

Any form of high blood pressure is dangerous if not properly treated. Both numbers in a blood pressure test are important, but, for some, the systolic is especially meaningful. That's because, for those persons middle aged and older, systolic pressure gives a better diagnosis of high blood pressure.

If left uncontrolled, high systolic pressure can lead to stroke, heart attack, congestive heart failure, kidney damage, blindness, or other conditions. While it cannot be cured once it has developed, ISH can be controlled.

The diastolic blood pressure has been and remains, especially for younger people, an important hypertension number. The higher the diastolic blood pressure the greater the risk for heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure. As people become older, the diastolic pressure will begin to decrease and the systolic blood pressure begins to rise and becomes more important. A rise in systolic blood pressure will also increase the chance for heart attacks, strokes, and kidney failure. Your physician will use both the systolic and the diastolic blood pressure to determine your blood pressure category and appropriate prevention and treatment activities.

Why Is High Blood Pressure Important?
High blood pressure is dangerous because it makes the heart work too hard. It also makes the walls of the arteries hard. High blood pressure increases the risk for heart disease and stroke, the first- and third-leading causes of death for Americans. High blood pressure can also cause other problems, such as heart failure, kidney disease, and blindness.

Effect of High Blood Pressure on Your Body

Impaired Vision
High blood pressure can eventually cause blood vessels in the eye to burst or bleed. Vision may become blurred or otherwise impaired and can result in blindness.

Stroke
High blood pressure is the most important risk factor for stroke. Very high pressure can cause a break in a weakened blood vessel, which then bleeds in the brain. This can cause a stroke. If a blood clot blocks one of the narrowed arteries, it can also cause a stroke.

Arteries
As people get older, arteries throughout the body "harden," especially those in the heart, brain, and kidneys. High blood pressure is associated with these "stiffer" arteries. This, in turn, causes the heart and kidneys to work harder.

Kidney Damage
The kidneys act as filters to rid the body of wastes. Over time, high blood pressure can narrow and thicken the blood vessels of the kidneys. The kidneys filter less fluid, and waste builds up in the blood. The kidneys may fail altogether. When this happens, medical treatment (dialysis) or a kidney transplant may be needed.

Heart Attack
High blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart attack. The arteries bring oxygen-carrying blood to the heart muscle. If the heart cannot get enough oxygen, chest pain, also known as "angina," can occur. If the flow of blood is blocked, a heart attack results.

Congestive Heart Failure
High blood pressure is the number one risk factor for congestive heart failure (CHF). CHF is a serious condition in which the heart is unable to pump enough blood to supply the body's needs.

Massage Information
Reflexology and massage aims to relieve stress or treat health conditions through the application of pressure to specific points or areas of the feet and body. The underlying idea of reflexology is that areas of the feet and hands correspond to (and affect) other parts of the body.

Techniques similar to reflexology have been used for thousands of years in Egypt, China and other areas. In the early 20th century, an American physician named William Fitzgerald suggested that the foot could be "mapped" to other areas of the body to diagnose or treat medical conditions. He divided the body into 10 zones and labeled the parts of the foot that he believed controlled each zone. He proposed that gentle pressure on a particular area of the foot could generate relief in the targeted zone. This process was originally called zone therapy.

In the 1930s, Eunice Ingham, a nurse and physiotherapist, further developed these maps to include specific reflex points. At that time, zone therapy was renamed reflexology. Modern reflexologists in the United States often learn Ingham's method or a similar technique developed by the reflexologist Laura Norman.

Reflexology charts include pictures of the feet with diagrams of corresponding internal organs or parts of the body. The right side of the body is believed to be reflected in the right foot, and the left side, in the left foot. Different health care providers, such as massage therapists, chiropractors, podiatrists, physical therapists or nurses, may use reflexology.

Massage has many therapeutic benefits. Most notable is the ability of massage and reflexology to:

* Help relieve tension and stress
* Soothe aching muscles
* stimulate local circulation

Women Feel they are sexiest at Age of 34

Being sexy is often perceived to be a key essence of femininity. And, now a new study has found that women feel most sexy at the age of 34.

Researchers have based their findings on a survey of over 1,000 women who were questioned about their sex lives - the majority of respondents said that it was at the age of 34 when they had felt more sexy.

The survey also revealed that middle-aged women have half as much sex as they did when they were younger - in fact the researchers found that that on average women aged 45 to 60 have sex 4.5 times a month, compared to 10.4 times a month in their 20s and 30s. However, it does show that women are still enjoying great sex lives as they get older.

“Women’s sexual needs, libido and lifestyle change over time, but there is absolutely no reason why older women can’t enjoy an extremely fulfiling sex life in their middle age and well into their senior years.

“The fact that over half of those quizzed said they had better sex now than in their 20s and 30s suggests that these women are more confident and self-assured than they were in their younger days and aren’t afraid of getting what they want.”

The Wonders of Banana Fruit

Never, put your banana in the refrigerator! !!

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout
. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world’s leading athletes. Not only energy but it also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit’s ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school ( England ) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito Bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Reduces Overweight: Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a “cooling” fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking.. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal..

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body’s water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels.. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape.

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase,so that we say, “A banana a day keeps the doctor away!”

Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon luke warm honey with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder daily for 3 days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold and clear the sinuses.

Infertility
Yunani and Ayurvedic have been using honey for years in medicine to strengthen the semen of men. If impotent men regularly take two tablespoon of honey before sleeping, their problem will be solved. In China, Japan and Far-East countries, women who do not conceive and to strengthen the uterus have been taking cinnamon powder for centuries. Women who cannot conceive may take a pinch of cinnamon powder in half teaspoon of honey and apply it on the gums frequently throughout the day, so that it slowly mixes with the saliva and enters the body.
A couple in Merryland, America had no children for 14 years and had left hope of having a child of their own. When told about this process husband and wife started taking honey and cinnamon as stated above, the wife conceived after a few months and had twins at full term.

Upset Stomach
Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root.

GAS : According to the studies done in India & Japan, it is revealed that if honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

Heart Diseases
Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread or chappati instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also those who have already had an attack, if they do this process daily, are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that due to the increasing age the arteries and veins which lose their flexibility and get clogged are revitalized.

What is Yoga ?

What is Yoga ?

The Word ‘Yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Yuj’ (concentrate one’s attention on). The ancient yogis said that the ultimate goal of yoga is “to be able to aware of each individual cell of the body simultaneously”. Yoga is also taken from the one of Hindus sacred book “Bhagavat Gita” where Lord Shri Krishna explains to Arjuna the meaning of Yoga as a deliverance from contact with pain and sorrow.

Yoga and health are connected with each other very closely. Yoga helps not only in physical health but also mental health providing positive thinking and spiritually to both your body and mind.

Researches have been conducted to look what health benefits does the yoga provide. The Yoga comprises of Asanas (Yoga Postures), Yoga Breathing (Pranayama) and meditation which makes your body flexible by taking out your mental stress and being yourself in a relaxed position.

What Involved With Yoga?

There are various styles of yoga, some of them are moving through the poses more quickly ( like an aerobic workout), and other styles relaxing deeply into each pose. And some of them have a more spiritual angle, while others are used purely as a form of exercise. Practicing of yoga involves stretching the body and forming different poses, while keeping breathing slow and controlled. The body becomes relaxed and energized at the same time.

What are the Drawbacks of Yoga?

* Yoga requires commitment of time and is more difficult for people with certain physical limitations.
* Some people feel self conscious doing some of the poses. Also, yoga classes can be expensive.
* More challenging to learn from a books or videos.

Boost your Memory by sleeping peacefully

Research has found that parents are to be believed when it comes to their advice on adequate sleep before an exam - because boffins say that sleep boosts memory.

And now, they have understood how.

Marcos Frank, PhD, Assistant Professor of Neuroscience, at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, postdoctoral researcher Sara Aton, PhD, and colleagues have found for the first time how cellular changes in the sleeping brain promote the formation of memories.

For the study, the researchers used an experimental model of cortical plasticity - the rearrangement of neural connections in response to life experiences.

“That’s fundamentally what we think the machinery of memory is, the actual making and breaking of connections between neurons,” Frank said.

In this case, the experience Frank and his team used was visual stimulation. Animals that were young enough to still be establishing neural networks in response to visual cues were deprived of stimulation through one eye by covering that eye with a patch.

The researchers then compared the electrophysiological and molecular changes that resulted with control animals whose eyes were not covered. Some animals were studied immediately following the visual block, while others were allowed to sleep first.

From previous work, Frank’s team already knew that sleep induced a stronger reorganization of the visual cortex in animals that had an eye patch versus those that were not allowed to sleep. Now they know why.

A molecular explanation is emerging. The key cellular player in this process is a molecule called N-methyl D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR), which acts like a combination listening post and gate-keeper. It both receives extracellular signals in the form of glutamate and regulates the flow of calcium ions into cells.

Essentially, once the brain is triggered to reorganize its neural networks in wakefulness, intra- and intercellular communication pathways engage, setting a series of enzymes into action within the reorganizing neurons during sleep.

To start the process, NMDAR is primed to open its ion channel after the neuron has been excited. The ion channel then opens when glutamate binds to the receptor, allowing calcium into the cell. In turn, calcium, an intracellular signaling molecule, turns other downstream enzymes on and off.

Some neural connections are strengthened as a result of this process, and the result is a reorganized visual cortex. And, this only happens during sleep.

“To our amazement, we found that these enzymes never really turned on until the animal had a chance to sleep. As soon as the animal had a chance to sleep, we saw all the machinery of memory start to engage,” Frank said.

Equally important was the demonstration that inhibition of these enzymes in the sleeping brain completely prevented the normal reorganization of the cortex.

The new study could pave the way to understanding, on a molecular level, why humans need sleep, and why they are so affected by the lack of it. It could also lead to novel therapeutics that could compensate for the lack of sleep, by mimicking the molecular events that occur during sleep.

The study is published this week in Neuron.

Top 8 Foods that Boots Your Sex Hormones

1. Bananas :

If you want sex to go the extra kilometer, fuel up for foreplay. A big banana is the perfect food for bedroom endurance. Bananas contain B vitamins, which are key for converting carbohydrates into energy and are believed to help manufacture sex hormones such as testosterone.

2. Celery :

Serve your partner celery sticks and he may suddenly seem more irresistible. Raw celery contains the male hormone androsterone, which can act as a pheromone to trigger female attraction. After just a few bites, his sweat glands start releasing the pheromone. On special occasions, splash out and add a few truffle shavings to his meal. Truffles boast even more androsterone.

3.Dark chocolate :

An Italian study found that women who report eating chocolate on a daily basis claim to have more satisfying sex lives. Like other sweet foods, chocolate triggers the release of feel-good endorphins. It also provides small amounts of anxiety-quelling tryptophan, arousing caffeine and a couple of groovy substances anandamide and theobromine , in large quantities, work like a psychedelic drug and an opiate, respectively. Of course, you’d have to down several kilos of chocolate to feel the effects, but simply nibbling a few squares after dinner will help transform your mood from tense to toey.

4. Flaxseeds :

Downing just one tablespoon of flaxseeds a day helps increase testosterone production - and that’s the chemical with the most direct libido-boosting effect. Besides enhancing sex drive, these nutty-flavoured seeds contain essential fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6, which are the major building blocks of all sex hormones. “If you don’t have enough fatty acids, your hormone levels may decrease and so your desire. Flaxseed oil has twice the omega acids of fish and two tablespoons of the seeds deliver 140 per cent of your recommended daily dose.

To kickstart your libido, either swallow one teaspoon of flaxseed oil or sprinkle a tablespoon of the seeds on your cereal and salads. Since both can spoil quickly, purchase oil in opaque bottles and seeds in vacuum-sealed packs, since they have longer shelf lives. If seeds aren’t your thing, then opt for walnuts, which contain about 90 per cent of your omega RDI.

5.Ginger :

This powerful root stimulates the circulatory system, increasing blood flow to the genitals. “Fresh ginger has a more pungent smell” than the stuff in a jar, Smelling ginger has a stronger effect on penile and vaginal blood flow than actually eating it. When a food or aroma raises blood pressure, vessels in the genitals admit a rush of blood that inflates erectile tissue. The vessels then close off, preventing blood from exiting the erogenous zones, keeping sensitivity levels high.

6.Honey :

This sticky sweetener contains simple carbohydrates that provide instant energy and fuel for working muscles. “Honey is rich in B vitamins, which are needed for testosterone production, and it contains boron, which helps the body metabolise and use oestrogen - an important part of blood flow and arousal. Use a few teaspoons as a natural sweetener in tea or spread it on toast with peanut butter.
7.Nutmeg & Cloves :

Researchers have found that nutmeg and clove, both from evergreen trees, bolster the sexual activity. Each stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system - helping the little critters, and you, relax - but the effects were greater with nutmeg. Just don’t eat too much of the magical spice, as it also has hallucinogenic properties . Just a sprinkle on your cappuccino or hot chocolate should do the trick. But as with chocolate, you’d have to eat a lot (about two tablespoons worth on an empty stomach) before the walls start melting.

8. Oysters :

Ancient Romans pegged this shellfish as a sex-spurring food, and they were definitely onto something. Oysters contain high levels of zinc, a mineral required for the production of testosterone. A team of researchers recently found that mussels, clams and oysters deliver two types of amino acids that spark a rush of sex hormones. Be sure to chew shellfish thoroughly before swallowing to extract more of the mojo-cranking mineral.
